About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The purpose of COMBA is to provide a supportive environment for Black-identifying undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Music by promoting their academic, artistic, and personal success through social, academic, and performance-based activities.

Our Story
The College of Music Black Alliance (COMBA) was founded by DaSean Stokes in Fall 2023 to create a space where Black students within the Florida State University College of Music could be seen, supported, and celebrated. From the beginning, COMBA has been about strengthening the presence of Black artistry, scholarship, and leadership within the College of Music.

COMBA promotes Black music through performances and concerts, supports scholarship with conferences and research presentations, fosters leadership by empowering students to lead initiatives, and builds community through fellowship, mentorship, and professional growth. We also advocate for equity across the university by ensuring Black students’ voices and experiences are prioritized and valued.

COMBA’s proudest achievement has been establishing a safe, affirming community and space for Black students in the College of Music — a true home where students can connect, create, and thrive. Through every concert, meeting, and initiative, we stand proudly on the belief that Black contributions belong at the center of every musical conversation.
