COMBA Conference 2026 Evening Recital

March 7, 2026 | 7:30 PM | Dohnányi Recital Hall

 

Join us for a powerful evening of music celebrating the richness and diversity of Black musical artistry. This special concert will feature performances of works by Black composers across a wide range of genres, offering a vibrant showcase of tradition, innovation, and creative excellence. In addition to honoring established composers, the concert also provides a platform for new voices, inviting emerging composers to create and present original works that uplift and expand the landscape of Black music. Come experience an evening of community, creativity, and celebration.

Submission Instructions

Submissions must be received by November 28, 2025.

 

How to submit: 

Performer: 
   - Include an unedited visual (YouTube link or .mp4) file. 
   - Submit composer and librettist (if applicable) names and dates.
   - Submit the performer name(s)
       - NOTE: a pianist will not be provided

Composer:
   - Include an audio (.mp3) or visual (YouTube link or .mp4) file. A MIDI Rendering will also be accepted.
   - Submit a complete score (PDF).
   - Submit composer and librettist (if applicable) names and dates.
   - Submit the performer name(s)
       - NOTE: a pianist will not be provided

Repertoire Guidlines

Performer guidelines:
All musical genres and styles are welcome, including classical, jazz, folk, gospel, contemporary, and experimental. Instrumental works must be composed by a Black identifying person. Vocal works must have either music composed by a Black identifying person, text/libretto written by a Black person, or both. This includes composers and librettists from the global African (Black) diaspora:

   - Africa

   - Australia

   - Asia

   - Canada

   - The Caribbean

   - Europe
   - South America

   - United States of America

Individual performance slots must be between 3–7 minutes. Submissions exceeding this timeframe may not be considered. Indicate the instrumentation and any technical requirements (e.g., microphones, piano tuning, AV support).


Composer guidelines:
All musical genres and styles are welcome, including classical, jazz, folk, gospel, contemporary, and experimental. Instrumental works must be composed by a Black person, feature a Black librettist, or be an arrangement of a spiritual or Black folk song. Piece length must be between 3–7 minutes.
